NotíciasPIKA announces major enhancements to Asterisk portfolioOttawa, ON - October 3, 2007 - PIKA Technologies Inc., an international leader in providing media-processing hardware and software to the Asterisk open-source community, today followed up last week's announcement of its new PIKA Appliance for Asterisk with the release of two additional pieces of hardware. The new analog FXO (trunk) and FXS (station) boards, both members of PIKA's Daytona product family, are designed to the PCI Express (PCIe) form factor. The FXO board is available in 4, 8, 12 and 16 port versions, and the FXS in 4, 8 and 12 port versions. These boards, along with the previously released PrimeNet T1/E1 boards, include a unique feature - additional ports can be added to the boards remotely, through a simple software licensing procedure, eliminating the requirement for costly site visits when end users need additional capacity. PIKA also announced that its entire portfolio now supports Asterisk version 1.4, as well as the previous 1.2 version. In addition, the introduction of open-source drivers allows out-of-box support for any version of Linux for both the existing T1/E1 boards, the existing low density analog FXO board, and these new analog FXO/FXS boards. The full suite of Asterisk-based products has been developed using PIKA's proven media processing platform, including hardware (DSP) and software-based echo cancellation that has been successfully deployed in thousands of installations around the world for the past seven years. "These additions to PIKA's hardware and software products, along with the PIKA Appliance for Asterisk that we unveiled last week at Astricon, complete our portfolio of products in support of the worldwide Asterisk market," said Terry Atwood, PIKA vice president of sales, marketing and customer care. "With over 20 years experience in the voice processing market, PIKA has adapted its high-quality TDM interface cards to fully integrate into an Asterisk open-source environment, and we are confident we provide developers the most reliable, cost-effective choice for Asterisk applications deployment." Frost and Sullivan's recently completed report on open-source telephony solutions suggests increased adoption of open-source telephony solutions in the enterprise, as evidenced by this insight from the study's executive summary, "While it took years for Linux to achieve mainstream status, Frost & Sullivan believes that the path to commercial acceptance for open-source telephony will be much faster. The Linux movement has paved the way and has taken care of initial reservations about open-source technologies as a business-grade option." The new boards have evolved from PIKA's 15-year old Analog Daytona technology. The single-slot PCIe form factor enables easy integration into a standard PC chassis and the size, at 9.5 inches, allows the boards to fit into smaller, less expensive PC chassis. Highly flexible, the boards are software configurable for use in multiple countries. Users just getting started with Asterisk applications and boards can expect the same reliable, high-touch technical support for which PIKA is known.
